Padtec and RNP sign an agreement on technical cooperation during Futurecom

Padtec signed yesterday (10/14), during Futurecom 2014, an agreement on technical cooperation and reciprocal support with RNP (National Education and Research Network). The purpose of this agreement is to encourage and support the development of cooperative projects, human resource formation, event holding and the joint operation of advanced network services, regionally and nationally, with good quality and efficiency.

“It is about consolidating a strong and constructive partnership which has been there for years”, states Jorge Salomão Pereira, Padtec’s CEO. “This partnership includes Padtec’s support to building advanced networks focused on science and technology education and research in Brazil as well as in Latin America”, he adds.

Salomão highlights that the company has been supplying equipment and technologies to these networks which now connect academic institutions all over Brazil and also in other countries. It’s the case of RNP itself, Kyatera Network’s, which connects 93 research centers in the country, and RedClara’s – Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Network, which connects institutions and universities in Latin America by means of advanced telecommunications networks.

One of the important initiatives in this area of which Padtec is part, through the partnership kept with these great research networks, is the ALMA – Atacama Large Millimeter/sub millimeter Array – project, an international facility focused on astronomical observation. It is about a set of radio telescopes installed at 5 thousand meters of altitude in the Atacama region, in the north of Chile, which captures and sends information to the education and research institutions’ advanced telecommunications networks, responsible for its distribution to several countries in the world.

“Initiatives like this one show the high level of Padtec’s commitment with science and technology. It’s in this context that we are formalizing this long partnership which we already have with RNP”, adds Salomão.

For RNP, the agreement meets its mission of promoting the innovative use of advanced networks. “These resources are essential to promote advances which will benefit the academic community in different areas such as health, education and culture”, highlights Wilson Coury, RNP’s Managing Director. “Today, RNP has 900 linked institutions. With partnerships, we can go beyond limits and enjoy a communications network infrastructure with more points spread around Brazil”, he adds.
