Padtec expands Wirelink optical infrastructure in northeastern Brazil

From North of Maranhão to the capital of Pernambuco, 2,600 kilometers of DWDM networks provided by Padtec extend Wirelink data infrastructure and ensure thousands of new high-capacity connections in the region.

In order to expand its geographic presence and also its customer base, Wirelink, a Brazilian provider of telecommunications services, is investing in the expansion of its DWDM optical network (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) in the states of Ceará, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Maranhão and Pernambuco, in a total of 2,600 kilometers.

The new networks are interconnected to other operated by Wirelink in the Northeast region. This is the case of BMW Consortium optical ring (formed by the company and two other providers), responsible for lighting and operate a pair of fibers of the Digital Belt of the Ceará, which is about 3,000 kilometers long.

“The intention is to continue offering the best cost benefit in telecommunications services and high availability to our customers, in order to allow a greater number of northeastern citizens to have access to last generation broadband connections, with affordable prices”, says Adriano Câmara Marques, Wirelink’s Director. “Altogether, there are about 100 Gbps transmission capacity DWDM added to the Wirelink optical backbone. All this capacity will be available for both end users and for large corporate clients we serve, as OTTs. In addition, we are already planning new links this year”, he adds.

The Wirelink’s expansion optical backbone includes transponders and optical amplifiers to lighting three new routes, with terminations in the capital São Luís (MA), Fortaleza (CE) and Recife (PE). The new branches extend data transport, to reach more cities with multi-gigabit connections. In addition, the integration of these new links to the Digital Belt results in secondary rings, upgrading the network topology to create more redundancy possibilities for the optical channels.

“We are pleased to contribute, in partnership with Wirelink, to leverage the connections of the Northeast with our state-of-the-art DWDM equipment”, says Argemiro Sousa, Padtec’s Business Director. “Surely, this will bring great benefits and promote regional development, by enabling effective integration of some areas to other regions of the country and the world wide web”, he adds.
