Padtec’s submarine repeaters demonstrate stellar performance during sea trials in the Caribbean

Padtec, announces the successful completion of the rigorous sea trials of its submarine optical repeater. The trials were undertaken from April 30 to May 7, 2014. The activity was accomplished in partnership with IT Telecom (providing marine operations) and Nexans (providing both single armed and light weight submarine cables).

The sea trial consisted of performing shallow and deep-water activities commonly associated with the implementation and operation of submarine optical repeaters. Included in the full battery of test performed in shallow waters was successful burial of the repeater on the ocean floor along with sheave and tensile tests. Deep-water tests confirmed consistent operation of the repeaters at depths of more than 6,300 meters.  The trial included continuous operation of the system throughout the tested applications. Constant monitoring of transmission parameters assured proper operation of the repeaters under even the stress of installation. The end result is a demonstration of  the highest quality and reliability of Padtec’s repeater.

“Padtec has shown the quality and reliability its new solution for submarine optical communication systems, with a focus on applying the most advanced technology to submarine optical transmission thereby demonstrating a clear competitive differential. The market now has the best technology alternative for long-haul submarine distances, enabling the interconnection of continents across the oceans covering lengths of up to 10 thousand kilometers”, said Jorge Salomão Pereira, Padtec’s CEO.

The trial was effected in the Caribbean Sea and witnessed by customers and relevant authorities responsible for certification of the equipment in accordance to industry standards for the provision of optical submarine transmission solutions as well as Padtec Product Engineers and Directors.
