The state of the art in submarine repeaters is one of Padtec’s contributions to Futurecom

Padtec presents at Futurecom 2014, which takes place this week (from October 13 to 16) in São Paulo, its optical repeater for submarines. A result of technological development in the knowledge frontier, the repeater can be set to work with 130 channels at 100 Gb/s per fiber pair, coming to a total of 13 Tb/s per fiber pair (the highest capacity for optical regenerators in the market). The equipment which is at Padtec’s stand is part of the turnkey full solution for submarine optical communications systems offered by the company.

“We are bringing to the market an optimized combination of cost and performance: higher capacity concerning the number of channels and distance as well as lower cost”, says Jorge Salomão Pereira, Padtec’s CEO.

“With this solution, the market now has the best technological alternative for long-distance systems, capable of linking continents exceeding 10 thousand kilometers”, he adds.

The optical repeater developed by Padtec – in a project which began in 2012 – is a strong device, subjected to a complete set of tests in specialized laboratories. Furthermore, Padtec performed a sea trial this year with several potential clients. During the sea trial, it was possible to follow every step involved in deploying a cable for transoceanic submarine systems with all parts in full operation and the system transmitting at 100 Gb/s per wavelength.

Besides the optical repeater, Padtec’s full turnkey solution for submarine systems includes SLTE (Submarine Line Terminal Equipment), optical submarine cables (by means of a partnership with the Norwegian Nexans) and implantation services, operation and maintenance of wet and dry plants, as well as the support and management structure.

The submarine repeater can be seen at Padtec’s stand (D22) at the Business Trade Show during Futurecom 2014.
