Padtec provides DWDM equipment to Sumicity’s networks in Rio de Janeiro

The network provided by Padtec empowers Sumicity’s market segment operation and customer base in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.

Aiming at offering a wide range of services, Sumicity, a regional service provider with presence in the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, is investing in the deployment of DWDM networks (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) in order to aggregate more transmission capacity to its metropolitan backbone and increase their residential and commercial access business based on FTTH technology.

By the end of 2Q2016, new optical links with DWDM technology will be ready for operation in five among the fourteen cities reached by the company’s backbone in Rio de Janeiro. “Sumicity expectation is to increase significantly the number of customers in the coming years, at this moment we have a 10,000 km fiber network with great growth potential in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. The DWDM technology enables our fiber infrastructure for much higher traffic levels,” said Vicente Gomes, Sumicity CEO. “The choice of this technology is part of the company strategy to meet new audiences and new business areas, disputing customers seeking the best experience in telecommunications services,” he adds.

Padtec’s supply for Sumicity’s networks includes OTN transponders, amplifiers and automatic switching protection systems. “By transmitting with OTN encapsulation, our Transponders provide to the networks greater performance and robustness, since this protocol provides huge potential for bit inversion correction delivering signals free of errors,” said Eduardo Hirata, Padtec Marketing Manager. In addition to the outstanding performance, the network was prepared for future expansion with all links designed for receiving channels up to 100 Gbps.
