The Internet service provider from Espírito Santo expands operations to other states and, in addition to its existing customers, meets the demands of other ISPs.
Operating since 2012, Megalink, an internet service provider from Espírito Santo, has been growing and expanding its operations to other states – particularly southern Bahia and eastern Minas Gerais. To meet its customers’ increasing demand for higher transmission capacities, the company has invested in building a robust fiber optic network based on DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology and Padtec’s solutions.
“We built our own optical network to serve our customers, including residential, corporate, and government clients. Over time, we began providing links to other service providers that needed to meet their users’ demands,” explains Junior Sirtoli, co-director of Megalink. “This expansion created the need to invest in a more robust backbone, which is now connected to all telecom operators and data centers in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo,” he adds.
To achieve this, Megalink acquired a complete solution from Padtec, including multiplexers, amplifiers, and state-of-the-art transponders, such as the TM800G and TMD400G models, with express channels of up to 400 Gb/s, totaling a transmission capacity of 4.8 Tb/s. In total, 950 kilometers of optical network were lit, connecting several cities between Linhares and Vitória, in Espírito Santo, as well as the capitals Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Belo Horizonte (MG). “With this investment, Megalink now has a redundant network interconnecting Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo, which provides greater reliability and robustness to its system,” emphasizes Junior Sirtoli.
In this context, Padtec also supplied OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) modules for continuous remote and automatic monitoring of specific points in Megalink’s network. “The OTDR solution enables the quick identification of failures in long-distance optical networks. With the addition of this feature to a complete DWDM solution, Megalink now has a high-availability and reliable network, ready to meet users’ demands for high-quality internet services,” explains Argemiro Sousa, Padtec’s Equipment Operations Director.
