Padtec obtains three new invention patents

With a total of 6 patents granted and about 10 cases in progress, the company reinforces its commitment to technological innovation, the result of substantial investment in research and development.

Padtec, a leading manufacturer of optical transport systems, has just obtained the registration of three new invention patents at INPI – Brazilian National Institute of Intellectual Property. The company has obtained 6 registered patents out of a total of more than 15 applications, many of them in partnership with Unicamp (State University of Campinas) and with CPQD – which ranked 24th in the list of the 50 largest applicants to the INPI in 2020.

“In high-performance, long-distance and high-capacity optical communication networks, it is normal for errors to occur in the transmission of information through optical fibers, which limit the distances between the transmitter and the receiver. Electronic circuits can be used that implement error correcting codes that significantly increase the reach of networks with a good cost-performance ratio”, explains Roberto Nakamura, Padtec’s Chief Technology Officer. “Taking into account the ever-increasing demand for information and the search for technologies that allow data transmissions over long distances and with ever-increasing speeds, it becomes practical and necessary to use resources that help achieve this objective, such as error correcting codes”, he highlights.

Two of the three patents present methods of hardware implementation of the error correcting codes of Recommendation G.975.1 (Forward Error Correction for High Bit-rate DWDM Submarine Systems) of the ITU-T – the section of the International Telecommunications Union responsible for coordinating related industry standards – with an efficient architecture, low latency and efficient use of logic circuits. The third patented invention allows efficient and accurate implementation of electronic digital circuits with multiple clock sources, for different applications in telecommunication networks.

Padtec invests, on average, 13% of its annual revenue in research and development – in 2021 alone, more than BRL 43.6 million. With a portfolio that includes products for high-performance optical communication systems and services for communication networks, the company always seeks to be at the forefront of innovation – which has led to its recognition by national and international institutions. “Investing in technology is the differential that allows Padtec to remain competitive and always be on the frontier of knowledge in its area of operation”, assesses Nakamura.

The executive highlights that the inspiration to innovate is the result of Padtec’s own business dynamics and the demands it’s clients. More than 140 employees are part of the company’s research and development team – in the areas of software, hardware, product engineering, testing and quality and project management. “In addition, we have partnerships with universities and research centers, which contribute to expanding and diversifying the range of technological innovations that sustain the continued success of our customers”, he adds.
