Padtec Launches High-Density Transponder with Lower Cost per Transmitted Bit

TMQ800G-NC model offers capacity of up to 3.2 Tb/s in a rack occupying only 1RU of height.

Padtec is launching a new DWDM technology-based transponder: the TMQ800G-NC, which delivers up to 3.2 Tb/s of capacity in just 1RU of rack space. It is a more cost-effective and flexible alternative compared to other models in Padtec’s portfolio, as it enables the gradual expansion of transmission capacity without increasing rack space occupancy or power consumption in the same proportion.

“The focus of this new product is high density combined with the lowest cost per transmitted bit, enabled by a greater number of line interfaces,” emphasizes Alexandre Piovesan, Product Director at Padtec. The transponder features four independent interfaces, supporting operating modes of 400 Gb/s, 600 Gb/s, and 800 Gb/s. “Each optical channel is dedicated and independent, allowing different data rates on each line for different applications,” he explains. The product also supports connections to customer equipment through 100 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s interfaces.

In addition, the TMQ800G-NC transponder uses line interfaces based on OSFP (Octal Small Form Factor Pluggable) standard plugables, a new form factor designed to meet the demands of modern data centers and high-density networks. “This standard has been widely adopted in hyperscale and Artificial Intelligence data centers due to its more efficient thermal management,” says Piovesan.

Other key advantages of the product include its compact size, reduced power consumption, availability of removable and redundant AC or DC power supplies, and support for operating modes based on the OpenROADM standard. “Alignment with industry standards promotes interoperability and provides greater flexibility in vendor selection,” concludes the Padtec executive.
