Padtec lights up a 200 Gb/s optical system for HE-NET in Bahia

Padtec lights up a 200 Gb/s optical system for HE-NET in Bahia

The DWDM solution provided by Padtec to the Brazilian provider allows thousands of high speed connections in the south and southwest regions of the state.

HE-NET, a telecommunications service provider in Bahia (the state’s largest in terms of the number of subscribers according to Anatel’s ranking), is expanding the data transmission capacity of its optical network in key cities in the southern and southwestern regions of Bahia, a total of more than 2,500 kilometers of optical networks. And to continue offering high speed connections to its residential and business customers in these regions, the provider is installing Padtec’s next generation 200 Gb/s transponders.

For Helder Araujo, HE-NET’s Executive Director, in a scenario where thousands of devices communicate with the network every minute, investment in high capacity infrastructure is increasingly necessary to meet the demands for a unique connectivity experience. “In recent years, HE-NET has stood out as the provider with the highest speed broadband services in its coverage area according to the main measurement sites in the country. And in 2020, received the international GPTW (Great Place to Work) certification that certified it as one of the best companies to work for”, says the executive. “Our goal is to continue to be recognized for offering a unique connectivity experience and this is only possible with significant investments in infrastructure and innovation in products and services. In that regard, Padtec’s DWDM solution is an important ally for the evolution of our optical networks” he adds.

To light up the provider’s new routes in Bahia – two optical rings that connect the main municipalities in the south and southwest of the state – Padtec supplied 200 Gb/s transponders, optical amplifiers and route protection systems. It also provided the OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) solution, which allows operators to remotely and automatically monitor the performance of their optical networks over long distances. Produced by Padtec using technology developed by VIAVI – one of the main providers of network testing and monitoring solutions in the world – the OTDR solution, which integrates with the company’s product line, is the most compact on the market.

HE-NET also uses the latest Padtec NMS+ platform which allows monitoring and managing data traffic on its new DWDM optical routes in real time. Roberto Nakamura, Padtec’s Technology Director, highlights, as one of the advantages of the platform, the capability of managing, in the same web environment, Padtec products of different technological generations – including, the current 200 Gb/s transponders supplied to HE-NET and also future releases. “With the NMS+, servers are prepared to accompany the growth and modernization of DWDM networks, incorporating new technologies and products”, says the executive.
